Good afternoon

Tonight, motorists can expect lane shifts on I-295 at the Route 146 interchange in Lincoln. This will allow us to create a safe work zone while we rebuild the two bridges carrying 56,000 vehicles per day on I-295 over Route 146. Learn more about what else is happening at the Route 146 project, below.

Henderson Bridge, East Providence/Providence

As we continue building the new bridge, we are scheduled to install rebar in one span, structural steel in another, and a box beam in one of the bridge piers. No traffic impacts are expected.

Hunts Mill Bridge, East Providence

Work has resumed at this project after the winter shutdown period. On Monday, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., motorists should expect alternating one-way traffic in both directions over the bridge to move granite curb. Although no additional traffic impacts are anticipated during the rest of the week, preparations are underway for sidewalk installation on both sides of the bridge.

I-95 North Viaduct, Providence

Various ramps and lanes within the project area along I-95 and portions of Route 6 will be closed for overnight steel installation and wall demolition. Weekday abutment construction and barrier wall installation also requires the closures of portions of Park and Ashburton streets. Please follow signed detours during all closures.

Pell Bridge Ramps Phase 2, Newport

Toward the end of next week, a new traffic pattern will be installed with the opening of the new intersection of JT Connell Highway and the JT Connell Connector Road. The new intersection will connect JT Connell Highway and allow a straight connection from Farewell Street to the Admiral Kalbfus Road Roundabout. Please be aware that this work will require overnight work. In addition, sidewalk installation and electrical work is anticipated along JT Connell Highway. Rail work along the Newport Secondary will be conducted from the Newport station north to the area behind Braman cemetery. Road work is also anticipated at the intersection of Farewell Street and America’s Cup Avenue. The bridge rehabilitation and demolition work will continue along Route 138 for the overpasses and may require temporary lane shifts along Third Street and JT Connell Highway. Flaggers and police details will be onsite to guide vehicles through the work zones.

Route 146, Lincoln/North Smithfield

Through a $196 million project, we are making much-needed safety and congestion improvements along the Route 146 corridor. These include replacing the bridges that carry both directions of I-295 over Route 146 in Lincoln, and removing and replacing the existing traffic signal at Sayles Hill Road in North Smithfield with a bridge for enhanced connectivity.

In addition to tonight’s traffic shift on I-295 at Route 146 for the bridge replacements (mentioned above), and the upcoming shifts on Route 146 under I-295 the following weekend, motorists can also anticipate overnight ramp and lane closures within the project area for preconstruction activities. We also need to close Sayles Hill Road, from Woodland Road to Route 146, for overnight utility work. Please follow signed detours during all closures. Next weekend, we’re planning shifts on Route 146 under I-2

Route 6/10 Interchange Reconstruction, Providence

Noise is anticipated for overnight demolition of the former Route 6 East ramp to Route 10 South, Sunday-Thursday nights from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. Motorists can expect a weekday left lane closure within the project area on Route 10 South for various construction activities including storm drain installation along the Union Avenue off-ramp, and precast median barrier installation along Route 10, from Tobey Street to the northern project limit, south of Atwells Avenue.

Washington Bridge, East Providence/Providence

No lane closures are scheduled during our daytime operations next week. We plan to continue bridge deck and concrete substructure repairs and do wall work at the new Waterfront Drive off-ramp.
