Henderson Bridge, East Providence/Providence

Work continues on the construction of the new bridge over the Seekonk River. Now that all of the steel beams are in place, crews are making progress on the formation of the bridge deck.

Additional bridge work requires alternating one-way traffic across a small (500 foot) section of the Henderson Bridge starting on Monday-Friday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

I-95 North Viaduct, Providence

We recently opened a new bridge at I-95 North to Route 146 North at Exit 38A (old Exit 23) as a part of the planned reconfiguration of the Providence Viaduct. Now, the old bridge to Route 146 North can be demolished. In its place, we will continue construction of a new collector-distributor road that will separate on-and-off ramp traffic from the I-95 through lanes.

Today, we've also opened a newly rebuilt portion of the Smith Street Bridge over I-95 North. We'll now demolish the other half of the bridge and rebuild it. Pedestrians will be able to cross the bridge on a new sidewalk on the south side of the bridge.

Overnight demolition, with noise anticipated, continues for retaining wall construction between Park Street and I-95 North. During the day, we also need to close lanes on of Park Street and Charles Street. Follow signed detours during all closures.

Pell Bridge Ramps Phase 2, Newport

A new lane shift on Admiral Kalbfus Road has been installed to allow for installation of new drainage, curbing, sidewalks, roadway pavement and shared use path construction. Commuters for the Navy base can also utilize the new JT Connell roadway south of the roundabout and the Connector Road for an easy alternative access point to the bridge to avoid the Admiral Kalbfus work zone.  Sidewalks along the north side will be temporarily closed and pedestrians will need to follow signage to avoid construction area

Sidewalk installation and electrical work will be conducted along America’s Cup and Farewell Street which may require temporary alternating lane closures.  Rail work may be conducted at times along the Newport Secondary. The bridge rehabilitation work will also continue along Route 138 at the Third Street, Newport Secondary and JT Connell overpasses and may require temporary lane shifts along Third Street and JT Connell Highway as needed.

Route 146, Lincoln/North Smithfield

Overnight bridge demolition and utility work continues within the project area on I-295 and Route 146 in Lincoln. Temporary road widening on Route 146 northbound and southbound in the area of Sayles Hill Road in North Smithfield requires lane closures Sunday-Thursday nights. Follow signed detours. Road construction will also take place weekdays on Route 146, from Route 146A to Route 104, and on Route 146A at the Spring Brook Bridge, with alternating lane and shoulder closures.

An Arizona grand jury is indicting the 11 "fake electors" who were backing then-President Trump in 2020. A month after the election, the 11 people got together at the state's GOP headquarters to sign a certificate claiming to be Arizona's 11 electors to the Electoral College, although Biden had won by thousands of votes. His electors were also certified by state officials.        The Supreme Court will hear arguments Thursday on Donald Trump's claim he has absolute immunity on charges of attempting to overturn the 2020 election. The outcome could determine whether Trump faces a federal trial this year on four felony counts brought by special counsel Jack Smith, which include conspiracy to defraud the U.S. and obstruction of an official proceeding. Trump's legal team argues the former president should have absolute immunity from criminal prosecution for any official acts taken while in office.        House Speaker Mike Johnson is demanding the president of Columbia University resign unless she reigns in anti-semitic protests. Speaking on the campus steps of the New York school with other GOP lawmakers, Johnson said no Jewish student should have to live in fear. His comments come as pro-Palestinian protests continue against Israel's war with Hamas.        The Biden Administration says it aims to cut freight emissions in the U.S. to zero. On Wednesday, officials laid out their goal to cut down harmful emissions from freight shipping. The White House says they hope to reach net-zero emissions in the transportation sector, and the entire U.S. economy, by 2050.        A new report can tell you if you're still earning enough to be considered middle class. Finance site SmartAsset analyzed data from the U.S. Census Bureau and the Pew Research Center to determine the middle class salary range in all 50 states. The national middle class salary range is 49-thousand-271-dollars to 147-thousand-828-dollars.        The MTV Video Music Awards are returning to New York. For the first time since 2021, the show will be back in New York and this time it will take place on Long Island at the UBS Arena in Elmont. It's the first for the arena and the show is set for September 10th. UBS Arena is the sixth New York arena to host the awards show.
