Henderson Bridge, East Providence/Providence

Work continues on the construction of the new bridge over the Seekonk River. Now that all of the steel beams are in place, crews are making progress on the formation of the bridge deck.

Additional bridge work requires alternating one-way traffic across a small (500 foot) section of the Henderson Bridge starting on Monday-Friday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

I-95 North Viaduct, Providence

We recently opened a new bridge at I-95 North to Route 146 North at Exit 38A (old Exit 23) as a part of the planned reconfiguration of the Providence Viaduct. Now, the old bridge to Route 146 North can be demolished. In its place, we will continue construction of a new collector-distributor road that will separate on-and-off ramp traffic from the I-95 through lanes.

Today, we've also opened a newly rebuilt portion of the Smith Street Bridge over I-95 North. We'll now demolish the other half of the bridge and rebuild it. Pedestrians will be able to cross the bridge on a new sidewalk on the south side of the bridge.

Overnight demolition, with noise anticipated, continues for retaining wall construction between Park Street and I-95 North. During the day, we also need to close lanes on of Park Street and Charles Street. Follow signed detours during all closures.

Pell Bridge Ramps Phase 2, Newport

A new lane shift on Admiral Kalbfus Road has been installed to allow for installation of new drainage, curbing, sidewalks, roadway pavement and shared use path construction. Commuters for the Navy base can also utilize the new JT Connell roadway south of the roundabout and the Connector Road for an easy alternative access point to the bridge to avoid the Admiral Kalbfus work zone.  Sidewalks along the north side will be temporarily closed and pedestrians will need to follow signage to avoid construction area

Sidewalk installation and electrical work will be conducted along America’s Cup and Farewell Street which may require temporary alternating lane closures.  Rail work may be conducted at times along the Newport Secondary. The bridge rehabilitation work will also continue along Route 138 at the Third Street, Newport Secondary and JT Connell overpasses and may require temporary lane shifts along Third Street and JT Connell Highway as needed.

Route 146, Lincoln/North Smithfield

Overnight bridge demolition and utility work continues within the project area on I-295 and Route 146 in Lincoln. Temporary road widening on Route 146 northbound and southbound in the area of Sayles Hill Road in North Smithfield requires lane closures Sunday-Thursday nights. Follow signed detours. Road construction will also take place weekdays on Route 146, from Route 146A to Route 104, and on Route 146A at the Spring Brook Bridge, with alternating lane and shoulder closures.

Former President Trump says he has been indicted over what he calls the "boxes hoax." In a post on his Truth Social platform, Trump said that he has been summoned to appear at the federal courthouse in Miami on Tuesday. Prosecutors decided to indict Trump for his alleged mishandling of classified documents and obstruction of the government's attempt to retrieve the documents after a months-long investigation by special counsel Jack Smith.       Donald Trump Junior is reacting to news of former President Trump's indictment over the handling of sensitive documents. In a tweet Thursday, Trump's oldest son said "We're living in a 3rd world Banana Republic." He added that "the only way to stop what the corrupt Biden DOJ" is doing is to put Trump back in the White House.       Forecasters say the wildfire smoke blanketing the Northeast may start lifting tonight. Air quality alerts have been posted across the region after smoke from Canadian wildfires created hazardous breathing conditions. Meteorologists say the smoke has settled over the Northeast because a stationary low pressure system has been steering a persistent wind southward into the U.S.       More than twenty teenagers are hurt after a deck collapsed at a park in Southeast Texas. The collapse happened this afternoon at Stahlman Park in Surfside Beach during a summer camp event. Officials said 21 victims between the ages of 14 and 18 were taken to the hospital.       Half of American adults say they disapprove of affirmative action. A Pew Research Center survey shows that half of Americans don't think colleges and universities should take prospective students' racial and ethnic backgrounds into consideration. A Supreme Court decision is expected this month on the issue, based on two cases involving Harvard and the University of North Carolina.       The Florida Panthers are looking to get on the board tonight against the Golden Knights in the Stanley Cup Final.
