Lincoln man charged with drug trafficking

 

An indictment, information, or complaint is merely an allegation. A defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty. 

 

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Attorney General Peter F. Neronha announced that a Lincoln man has been charged in Providence County Superior Court with multiple drug trafficking offenses stemming from his arrest by the Rhode Island State Police (RISP) on March 8, 2023.

 

On October 18, 2023, the Office of the Attorney General charged Diego Osorio (age 32), by way of criminal information, with one count of possession of one ounce to one kilogram of cocaine and one count of possession with intent to deliver cocaine.

 

As alleged in the criminal information, beginning in March 2022, the RISP High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area (HIDTA) task force began investigating several individuals, including the defendant, involved in cocaine distribution in Rhode Island and Massachusetts.

 

As alleged, investigators sought and obtained search warrants for the defendant’s apartment in Lincoln, his mother’s residence in Providence where he frequently visited before allegedly selling cocaine, and his 2016 Buick Lacrosse.

 

As further alleged, during the morning hours of March 8, 2023, members of the HIDTA task force surveilled the defendant outside his Central Street apartment. At approximately 11:00 a.m., investigators witnessed the defendant leave his home and get into his vehicle. Investigators followed the defendant, conducted a traffic stop, and detained him, at which time they read him his Miranda rights and informed him of the search warrants.

 

It is alleged that investigators searched the defendant’s apartment and seized quantities of cocaine and $11,770 in cash. Investigators then searched the defendant’s mother’s Hawkins Street apartment in Providence and found 935.9 grams of cocaine, $1,443 in cash, and various pieces of drug paraphernalia.

 

As alleged in the criminal information, the State Forensic Chemistry lab confirmed the presence of cocaine in the drugs seized from the defendant’s apartment and his mother’s apartment.

The defendant is scheduled for a pre-arraignment conference on January 5, 2024, in Providence County Superior Court.

 

Anti-ICE protests are once again happening in Minneapolis with federal agents deploying tear gas against protesters this afternoon. The protest is in front of an ICE facility in the city, and the crowd remains, although the standoff with ICE officers is over for now. Officers were lined up, blocking the front entrance to the facility.        Venezuelan opposition leader Maria Corina Machado says her meeting with President Trump was "great." She did not say if she had gifted her 2025 Nobel Peace Prize to Trump as she has said she wanted to. Trump's relationship with Machado has become somewhat complicated since the U.S. arrested former Venezuelan leader Nicolas Maduro.        Stocks are up on Wall Street. It comes as bank stocks are seeing a boost following the release of quarterly earnings. Elsewhere, new data pointed to a solid jobs market, with the Labor Department reporting Thursday that just 198-thousand Americans filed initial claims for unemployment benefits for the week ending January 10th. That's a drop of nine-thousand from the previous week. At the closing bell, the Dow Jones Industrial Average soared 292 points to 49-442. The S&P 500 rose 17 points to 69-44. The Nasdaq gained 58 points to 23-530.        Winter storm warnings are in effect from the Midwest to the Mid-Atlantic as a cold front is expected to dump heavy snow across eleven states. The National Weather Service says the strong cold front will create favorable conditions for lake effect snow downwind of the Great Lakes today. Up to six inches of snow and winds gusting up to 40 miles per hour are predicted from Minnesota to Maryland.        The cost for Spotify's premium streaming plans will go up in the U.S. next month. This comes after the streaming service raised prices in the U.K. and Switzerland last fall. Individual premium plans will increase to 12-dollars and 99-cents per month, with Student plans increasing to six-dollars and 99-cents per month.        This weekend's box office champion is expected to be "28 Years Later: The Bone Temple." The fourth installment in Sony's dystopian franchise is aiming for 20-to-22-million-dollars in its four-day debut. Its biggest competition comes from "Avatar: Fire and Ash," the sequel to "The Way of Water."
