City Council Special Meeting - Nov 08 2023

Israel's security cabinet is approving an increase in supplies in order to avoid a "humanitarian collapse" in Southern Gaza. This comes while Israel says its forces have encircled the home of the top Hamas leader, who is believed to be hiding underground. Today marks exactly two months since Hamas launched its October 7th attack against Israel.       Millions of people in the eastern half of the U.S. are expected to feel the effects of a massive storm this weekend. Forecasters say the storm will stretch more than 12-hundred miles from the Gulf Coast to the Canadian border. Possible snow in the north and severe thunderstorms, heavy rain, strong winds throughout the east will start to form on Friday, gain strength on Saturday and become full-strength by Sunday.       Connecticut Senator Richard Blumenthal says Congress has a moral duty to stop gun violence. Blumenthal and other lawmakers met with families of victims and gun violence survivors on Capitol Hill today. Next Thursday marks exactly eleven years since 20 children were among those shot and killed at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut.       Congress is making it clear that pulling a fire alarm will not be tolerated. By a vote of 214-to-191, the House censured New York Democrat Jamaal Bowman for pulling a fire alarm in a congressional building in September. Bowman, who claims he pulled the alarm thinking it would open a locked door, had pleaded guilty to one count of falsely pulling a fire alarm and was ordered to pay a one-thousand dollar fine.       Flags across the U.S. are being flown at half-staff today in observance of National Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day. On this day in 1941, over 24-hundred Americans were killed and more than eleven-hundred others were injured after the Japanese military made a surprise attack on the U.S. Naval Base in Pearl Harbor. The day after the attack, the U.S. entered World War Two and declared war on Japan.       The Pittsburgh Steelers play host to the New England Patriots tonight as Thursday Night Football kicks off Week 14 of the NFL season. The Steelers will be without starting quarterback Kenny Pickett, who was injured in last week's 24-to-ten loss to the Arizona Cardinals. The Patriots are on a five-game losing streak, despite allowing ten points or less in each of their last three games.
