AARP and RISD TO PRESENT ACCESSORY DWELLING UNIT (ADU) CONCEPTS AT THE STATE HOUSE

 

RISD Student Designs on Display on January 25

(PROVIDENCE, RI) – AARP Rhode Island tapped the skills and vision of some bright young minds in architecture and design to develop creative ADU concepts that showcase the range of benefits this important housing option can offer. Students from Rhode Island School of Design participated in an ADU design competition in November, the results of which will be on display at an interactive State House event. RISD students will present their ADU concepts and models to the public and talk about how they envisioned these designs for people to age in their communities.

The speaking program will include House Speaker Joseph Shekarchi, State Senators Meghan Kallman and Victoria Gu, State Representative June Speakman, Rhode Island School of Design Provost Touba Ghadess and RISD Associate Professor, Department Head, Interior Architecture Wolfgang Max Rudorf.

President Trump is speaking on crime and "beautification" of the nation's capital. He has recently taken aim at DC Mayor Muriel Bowser, saying she has tried, but has given many chance only for DC to get "dirtier and less attractive." He has also criticized the renovation of the Federal Reserve building, saying it could have been done "in a far more elegant and time sensitive manner" for less money.        Parts of the Midwest and Plains will remain under a flood threat through tomorrow. Flood watches are in place for areas of Kansas, Nebraska, Iowa, Missouri, Illinois and Wisconsin. It comes as severe weather swept through the region over the weekend leading to flash flooding in places like Milwaukee.        President Trump and Russian President Putin are set to meet in Alaska on Friday to discuss an end to the war in Ukraine. Meanwhile, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky says his country will not let Russia "deceive" the U.S. as the meeting looms. No word yet on where Zelensky will be as Trump and Putin meet.        The CDC workers union wants the federal government to do more to combat misinformation about vaccines. This comes after a gunman blamed the COVID-19 vaccination for making him depressed and suicidal. The union says staffers have endured months of "mistreatment, neglect, and vilification" and worry about scientists' safety.        The Perseid meteor shower will reach its peak this week. It has had lights streaking across the sky since last month, ramping up to Tuesday night and early Wednesday morning, where 60 or more meteors can shoot by in an hour. Viewing is best in rural areas in the hours before dawn, but the shooting stars can be seen anytime after dark.        UFC fans will be able to watch all events on Paramount-Plus starting next year. The deal is worth seven-point-seven billion dollars over seven years. The events will stream on Paramount-Plus at no additional charge and select events will also be simulcast on CBS.
