TEEN SUMMER READING INFO
Summer is here at last. As the temperature rises, Woonsocket Harris Public Library Teen department starts up the Summer Reading Challenge. Don’t worry, it is not that challenging. It’s open to anyone in Middle School or High School and they can win prizes for every book they read. That is all you have to do, read books and report back on what you have read. Pick any book that you want, even those that are not from the library. When you read a book, you will automatically be entered in a weekly prize drawing. We’ve restocked the Steampunk Book Cart with fresh books, but you’ll want to get there before all the best books are gone. This summer promises to be the best ever. To sign up all you have to do is stop by the Teen desk or ask at the Children’s Room and start reading!

Dungeons and Dragons for Teens    Tuesdays 3:00-4:30pm

It’s an ongoing storytelling based adventure with the focus on fun and excitement rather than rules. From the darkened canals of Verenzia to the dinosaur filled jungles of Srathus, an entire world of role playing adventure awaits.

Republican governors and state education leaders are expected to be at the White House today as President Trump signs an executive order to shut down the Education Department. The Trump administration says education authority should be returned to individual states due to declining test scores. The Education Department was first established under President Carter in 1979.        It isn't known if the Department of Justice has complied with a federal judge's order to hand over deportation flight details. The deadline to provide more details on last weekend's flights carrying alleged Venezuelan gang members was extended a day to noon Eastern today. The Trump Administration maintains the judge does not have the legal standing to pause the flights.        The eastern part of the U.S. is expected to feel the effects of a storm that's been blowing across the country. A number of Midwestern states have reported tornadoes and blizzard conditions that resulted in extended power outages. Areas from Atlanta up to New York City are bracing for extremely windy conditions today.        A foreign exchange student in the U.S. on a student visa is being detained by federal immigration authorities. Indian national and Georgetown University student Badar Khan Suri was taken into custody Monday night outside his home in Arlington, Virginia. He is accused of spreading Hamas propaganda and a DHS spokeswoman alleged on social media that Suri has close ties to a senior advisor for Hamas        A woman on an American Airlines flight is facing federal charges after allegedly assaulting a crew member. Nicole Pizzi was indicted earlier this week and is accused of hitting, kicking and spitting on a flight attendant during the Pittsburgh-to-Charlotte flight. Pizzi, who was reportedly intoxicated, is also accused of assaulting an EMT, a medic and a nurse after landing.        This year's NC-Double-A men's basketball tournament has already seen its first upset, if you count a nine over an eight an upset. Ninth-seeded Creighton cruised past Louisville 89-75 in a South Region game as March Madness is underway. Alabama State will see if it has another miracle win up its sleeve as the 16th-seeded Hornets take on number-one seed Auburn in another South Region match-up.
