Attorney General, State Police conclude investigation of award of ILO contract

 

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Office of the Attorney General and the Rhode Island State Police today announced the conclusion of the investigation of allegations related to the awarding of the school reopening contract to ILO Group, LLC, following a joint investigation.

Additionally, Attorney General Peter F. Neronha and Colonel Darnell S. Weaver of the Rhode Island State Police will be available to the media tomorrow, October 30, at 10:30 a.m. at the Office of the Attorney General (150 South Main St., Providence) to answer questions.

 

The U.N. Security Council is being called together today as pressure mounts over Iran's violent crackdown on protests. The meeting was requested by the United States, after reports that more than three-thousand demonstrators have been killed. President Trump says he's been told the killings have stopped and that there are no plans for executions, though unrest and international concern remain high.        Minneapolis officials are urging calm after another shooting involving federal law enforcement in the city. A Department of Homeland Security statement says a federal officer shot a Venezuelan man in the leg Wednesday night after the man fled a traffic stop and allegedly resisted arrest, with two others also taken into custody. Both the man and the officer were hospitalized.        NASA has brought an International Space Station crew home early after an astronaut fell ill. The SpaceX Crew-11 mission splashed down safely off the coast of San Diego, carrying a U.S., Japanese, and Russian crew back to Earth. NASA says it's the first time in the station's 25-year history a mission ended early for medical reasons.        President Trump is set to meet Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado at the White House today. The Nobel Peace Prize winner will sit down with Trump amid shifting U.S. engagement in Venezuela. Trump has previously questioned Machado's support at home and has signaled closer ties with acting president Delcy Rodríguez even as he hosts her.        A powerful winter storm is sweeping across much of the country, putting multiple states on alert. Heavy snow could be an issue from the Lake Michigan shoreline into parts of Illinois and Indiana, with snow showers stretching as far south as Tennessee and North Carolina.        The NCAA is asking federal regulators to hit pause on prediction markets tied to college sports. The association wants the Commodity Futures Trading Commission to shut down the markets until safeguards like age limits, integrity monitoring, and NCAA oversight are in place. NCAA President Charlie Baker says the largely unregulated betting threatens the integrity of games and puts student-athletes at risk.
