GET READY TO HAVE THE GREENEST HOLIDAYS YET

There will be 12 challenges as we celebrate the 12 days of

a green Christmas.

Join daily to learn many ways you can be greener this holiday.

CHALLENGE DAY #7

Recycle Metal Cans, Lids & Foil

Metal Cans & Tins:

As you look at your waste generated during the holidays, you will see many metal items: beer and beverage cans, baking baking ingredients, whipped cream containers, cookie tins, aluminum pans, and foil to name a few.

RECYCLE THESE ITEM! Aluminum cans are the most sustainable beverage package on virtually every measure. Aluminum cans have a higher recycling rate and more recycled content than competing package types. Most of all, aluminum cans are most often recycled over and over again in a truly circular, closed loop recycling process.

AEROSOL CANS

Don't forget to also recycle empty aerosol containers like air spray and whipped cream containers. Just make sure they are empty, then put in your recycling.

ALUMINUM PANS, PIE PLATES & SERVING CONTAINERS

Lots of food this time of year comes in aluminum containers. Wash off and put in your curbside recycle bin.

Many times the containers come with a plastic top - that can be recycled too. Remove the plastic lid from the aluminum base so they can travel separately and be properly sorted by material.

ALUMINUM FOIL - Ball it then toss in recycling.

Using aluminum foil during the holidays? This is a great recyclable - if it is clean. It does not have to be spotless, but if pretty clean, crumple into a ball and recycle it.

Shape matters-- which is why we say crumple into a ball. That is how the recycle machines at RIRRC can properly sort this item from other materials.
