Kallman, Shanley to hold Valentine’s Day press
conference to support retirement savings bill

STATE HOUSE – Sen. Meghan E. Kallman, Rep. Evan P. Shanley and advocates from across the state including AARP RI, the Latino Policy Institute, the RI Black Business Association, SEIU, Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, Progreso Latino, Economic Progress Institute and the Working Families Party will hold a Valentine’s Day press conference to promote a bill called “Secure Choice.” The bill aims to help the 172,000 Rhode Island workers who do not have access to retirement savings plans through work.

The press conference will take place Tuesday, Feb. 14, at 3 p.m. in the State House Library on the second floor of the State House.

Legislative sponsors Senator Kallman (D-Dist. 15, Pawtucket, Providence) and Representative Shanley (D-Dist. 24, Warwick, East Greenwich) will speak, as will small business owners and advocates from around the state. The legislation (2023 S-0089, 2023 H-5417) would enable workers at companies without a 401(k) or similar retirement plan save for retirement through payroll deductions.
