Good afternoon

This construction season, we’ll pave many roads throughout the state as part of our five-year investment of nearly $500 million in resurfacing projects. Please see below for more about one of the roads we’re currently addressing – Route 1A (Boston Neck Road) in North Kingstown and Narragansett.

Henderson Bridge, East Providence/Providence

We recently finished placing steel at one of the new bridge spans and forming the bridge deck at another. We also have been and will continue placing concrete at the east approach and doing utility work across the bridge. No lane closures are required.

I-95 North Viaduct, Providence

Next week, we will need to close various ramps at the I-95 North/Exit 37 interchange for overnight barrier installation, lanes along I-95 North, with rolling roadblocks possible after midnight, for overnight utility work, and portions of Smith Street for overnight drainage work. Park Street, from Holden Street to Smith Street, will also be closed during the day for wall construction. Please follow signed detours during all closures.

Paving Projects, Statewide

This week, we started a project to mill and pave a 10-mile stretch of Route 1A (Boston Neck Road) in North Kingstown and Narragansett. Motorists can expect daytime lane closures from Beach Street in North Kingstown to the Sprague Bridge in Narragansett, and a rough riding surface during the milling process until our paving is completed. This is just one of the projects we’re doing. Overall, we’re investing $500 million to improve the riding condition of our statewide road network. Learn more here.

Pell Bridge Ramps Phase 2, Newport

On Thursday night next week, a new slip lane on-ramp will open for traffic coming from Downtown Newport. This will remove the right turn signal for drivers coming from the JT Connell Connector Road onto Route 138. Sidewalk work and median installation will continue along JT Connell Highway and the JT Connell Connector Road. Drainage and electrical installation as well as full depth road base work is anticipated along America’s Cup Avenue, and electrical work site wide. Bike path and rail work will continue along the Newport Secondary corridor. Bridge rehabilitation and demolition will continue along Route 138 for the overpasses and may require temporary lane shifts along Third Street and JT Connell Highway. Flaggers and police details will be onsite to guide vehicles through the work zones.

Reservoir Avenue Railroad Bridge, Providence

No traffic impacts are anticipated as we continue overnight installation of the supports for the new gas main at the bridge.

Route 146, Lincoln/North Smithfield

On Friday night, we will shift traffic to the right on the Route 146 service roads, from Route 116 to Route 99. Starting Monday night, alternating lane closures for barrier and sign work on both directions of Route 146 and I-295 are scheduled as is alternating one-way traffic on Sayles Hill Road at Route 146, and the closure of a portion of Sayles Hill Road West, for overnight utility work. We also anticipate daytime bridge work within the project area on Route 146 North and Route 146A South at Spring Brook Bridge. Please follow signed detours during all closures.

Route 6/10 Interchange Reconstruction, Providence

Weekday alternating lane closures along Route 10 South are anticipated for next week. We’ll be doing storm drain installation on the Union Avenue off-ramp from Route 10 South, building the Route 10 center median in the Tobey Street area, and paving within the center median of Route 6, and the future Plainfield Street on-ramp to Route 6 East. Overnight demolition of the former ramp from Route 6 East to Route 10 South is also scheduled at this project, Monday-Friday nights from 10 p.m.-6 a.m.

_

Washington Bridge, East Providence/Providence

Bridge deck repairs along I-195 West require the overnight closures of Exit 1D, the on-ramps from Warren Avenue/Veterans Memorial Parkway, and the right lane, from Broadway to South Main Street. Please follow signed detours during all closures.
