Rep. Voas nominated for NCSL Health Seminar

STATE HOUSE – Rep. Brandon T. Voas (D-Dist. 57, Cumberland, Central Falls) has been nominated by House Speaker K. Joseph Shekarchi (D-Dist. 23, Warwick) to attend the National Conference of State Legislatures’ (NCSL) Health Seminar for Newer Legislators.  The seminar will be held on May 5 through 7 in La Jolla, California.

“It is an honor to be nominated for this important seminar and I thank Speaker Shekarchi for putting my name forward to participate in this exciting event that will touch upon topics that deeply affect all Rhode Islanders.  Every state in the country is facing significant health policy issues and this meeting will allow young legislators from across the country to examine the problems that our constituents are facing and discuss the solutions that keep our residents safe and healthy,” said Representative Voas.

This meeting brings together new or emerging legislators in health policy to learn about and discuss a range of state health policy challenges and opportunities. According to the NCSL, the conference is for new legislators who are viewed as emerging leaders in the health policy arena to learn more about state health issues in an interactive forum with peers from other states.

The NCSL is a bipartisan non-governmental organization established in 1975 to serve the nation’s 7,383 state lawmakers and legislative staff. NCSL has three objectives: to improve the quality and effectiveness of state legislatures; to promote policy innovation and communication among state legislatures; and to ensure state legislatures a strong, cohesive voice in the federal system. All state legislators and staff members are automatically members of NCSL.
