Good afternoon

Tonight, we’re installing a lane split in both directions of Route 146 at the bridges that carry the highway over Mineral Spring Avenue and Charles Street in North Providence. The splits should be in place for about six weeks. More information is available here. We’re also shifting and narrowing lanes at the Route 146/Route 146A interchange in North Smithfield. Learn more here.

Henderson Bridge, East Providence/Providence

A daytime closure of East River Street is scheduled for bridge deck work. Please follow signed detour. Motorists can also expect weekday alternating one-way traffic on the Henderson Expressway, from Massasoit Avenue in East Providence to South Angell Street in Providence. Other activities for the week, with no lane closures anticipated, include paving at the Massasoit Avenue roundabout, concrete placement for one of the bridge walls, and steel girder installation at one of the bridge spans.

I-95 North Viaduct, Providence

As we continue construction of the bridge deck, various ramps within the I-95/Exit 37 interchange will be closed overnight as will lanes within the project area along both directions of I-95, and Route 6, from Dean Street to Memorial Boulevard. We also have overnight demolition, with noise anticipated, for the retaining wall construction between Park Street and I-95 North. Weekday wall construction also requires the closures of portions of Park and Ashburton streets, with alternating one-way traffic on portions of Smith Street for utility work. Please follow signed detours during all closures.

Mohegan Bridge, Burrillville

We are scheduled to mill, pave and waterproof the bridge deck, requiring its full closure, Monday-Friday, April 24-28. Learn more here, and please follow signed detour.

Paving Projects, Statewide

We’re currently milling and paving the I-295 corridor, from the Massachusetts border in Cumberland to the I-95 interchange in Warwick. Next week, motorists can anticipate overnight lane closures on I-295 for milling and paving in Johnston, and milling on I-95 in Pawtucket. We also have day work scheduled, with left lane closures for paving on I-295 North and South in Cumberland. Click here for additional information about our paving program.

Pell Bridge Ramps Phase 2, Newport

Starting Friday night, April 28 and lasting through Sunday, April 30, we will close Admiral Kalbfus Road at the old Route 138 overpass, located between the Newport roundabout and the former Newport Grand. During this weekend closure, RIDOT will demolish the old overpass, which was taken out of service late last year as part of this project. Next week, drainage and electrical installation as well as full depth road base work is anticipated along America’s Cup Avenue and Farewell Street. Electrical work consisting of installation of wire, mast arms and pedestrian poles will occur site wide, and bike path and rail work will continue along the Newport Secondary corridor. Bridge rehabilitation and demolition work will continue along Route 138 for the overpasses and may require temporary lane shifts along Third Street and JT Connell Highway.  Flaggers and police details will be onsite to guide vehicles through the work zones.

Reservoir Avenue Railroad Bridge, Providence

Overnight installation of the supports for the new gas main continues at the bridge with no anticipated traffic impacts.

Route 146, Lincoln/North Smithfield

Starting tonight, travel lanes will shift at the Route 146/Route 146A (Exit 10) interchange. Get the details here. This will allow us to rebuild this bridge using a new design which will accommodate both Route 146 North and South traffic on the same structure. Next week, weekday alternating lane closures on Route 146 North, from Route 146A to Route 104, and shoulder closures on Route 146A South at the Spring Brook Bridge, carrying Route 146 over Route 146A, are scheduled to conduct soil borings. These subsurface investigations will enhance the design of the bridges and retaining walls being built as part of this project

Route 6/10 Interchange Reconstruction, Providence

Starting next Friday April 28, we are scheduled to pave a section of the 6/10 between the high and low speed lanes over the weekend. We will have various lane closures Friday night at 7 p.m.-Monday morning at 5 a.m. on Route 6 East, from the Plainfield Street on-ramp to the Broadway off-ramp, and Route 10 North, from Union Avenue to Broadway. Next week, motorists can anticipate weekday alternating lane closures within the project area on Route 10 South and Route 6 East. We are scheduled to install curb on the Service Road between Broadway and Westminster Street, excavate for curb on Harris Avenue at the approach to the Harris Avenue/Tobey Street bridge, and continue overnight demolition of the former ramp from Route 6 East to Route 10 South over Amtrak. Noise is anticipated.

Washington Bridge, East Providence/Providence

Overnight alternating one-way traffic is scheduled on Gano Street under I-195 as is the closure of the Gano Street exit off I-195 West to remove formwork and waterproof the bridge deck. These operations will also involve the overnight closures of the on-ramps from Warren Avenue/Veterans Memorial Parkway and Taunton Avenue and alternating lanes on I-195 West. Please follow signed detours. Weekdays, we will continue concrete deck repairs and build the Waterfront Drive off-ramp retaining wall.  No lane closures are anticipated for these operations.
