Chairwoman Cano and Sen. Gallo’s statement on 2023 RICAS test scores

STATE HOUSE – Senate Education Committee Chairwoman Sandra Cano and Senate President Pro Tempore Hanna M. Gallo is are releasing the following statement concerning the recently released 2023 RICAS test scores:

“While improvement over the past few years should be highlighted and celebrated, we must also recognize the sobering fact that having only one out of every three students being proficient in their studies is unacceptable and there is still far more work to be done.  Our children’s educational success is directly tied to the future economic success of our state and although these scores are certainly a positive step in the right direction, they still show that we must further increase our focus and efforts to ensure our children are educated and ready for adult life.  This important issue will remain a top priority for the Senate in the upcoming legislative session and we will work with all of the stakeholders – parents, teachers, administrators, government officials and RIDE - in order to continue the educational progress and improvement that our children need and deserve,” said Chairwoman Cano (D-Dist. 8, Pawtucket) and President Pro Tempore Gallo (D-Dist. 27, Cranston, West Warwick).
