RI Senate Leadership Update

Friend,

Our hearts are heavy this week following the passing of our dear friend and beloved colleague, Senator Frank Lombardo III.

Frank devoted his life to faith, family, and community. His kindness and generosity touched the lives of so many. In the Senate, he embodied the spirit of collegiality and service, setting an example for us all. In recent months, his dignity and courage in the face of serious illness was an inspiration.

And we will never forget Frank’s incredible energy and sense of adventure. An accomplished outdoorsman, he loved hobbies like helicopter skiing and cross-country motorcycle drives. Many of us are grateful to have shared in that part of his rich journey through life.

First elected to the Senate in 2010, Frank represented the Town of Johnston in the Rhode Island Senate with great distinction for more than a decade. He was a champion for his constituents, and especially for the small businesses that make up the backbone of our state’s economy. A small business owner himself, he believed deeply in the power of entrepreneurship and the need to open doors of opportunity to all Rhode Islanders. In 2019, he was named Chairman of the Senate Committee on Housing & Municipal Government, a role in which he provided outstanding leadership.

We appreciate the outpouring of support over the last few days from our extended Senate family and the entire Rhode Island community. We send our deepest condolences to Frank’s father, Frank Lombardo Jr., as well as his wife, Patricia, their children, Frank and Victoria, their grandchildren, and their entire family.

Frank, we will miss you enormously. Your legacy as a public servant will never be forgotten, and the memory of your warmth and friendship will be with us always.

Sincerely,

Donny, Ryan, and Val
