On April 16, 2018 at approximately 10:33 pm Officer Robert Frye of the North Smithfield Police Department stopped a motor vehicle for a minor traffic offense on Sayles Hill Road near the Lincoln town line.

 

Upon approaching the vehicle and speaking with the operator, an odor of burnt marijuana was detected by the officer.  Further investigation by Officer Frye resulted in the seizure of drug paraphernalia along with an illegal sized knife.

 

Detective Josh Nelson was contacted to further assist with the investigation and obtained a court authorized search warrant which resulted in the seizure of 111 individual packets of heroin.  The heroin weighed in at 22 grams with a street value of $2250.  The operator was also in possession of over $1600 in cash.

 

The North Smithfield Police received assistance from the Coventry Police Department K-9 unit.

 

As a result of the car stop and seizure, Jahrod King, age 19 of 367 Prospect Avenue, Hartford, CT was charged with possession of weapons other than firearms and possession of schedule I, V narcotics with the intent to deliver.  The defendant was arraigned on April 17th in 3rd District Court and plead not guilty.  He signed a waiver of extradition and was held on $5,000 surety bail.
