NORTH SMITHFIELD- Town Administrator Paulette D. Hamiliton announces that the 11th annual Clean & Green Day will take place on May 4th, 2013. There was a change in date to due North Smithfield Little League Opening Day. Clean & Green Day will be held rain or shine.

Volunteers are needed for the Clean & Green Day to help clean around the town from 9:30am to noon. Volunteers and clean-up teams are encouraged to pre-register for the event on the Clean & Green Day website:www.earthdayns.org. Teams and individuals can also register the day of event; registration will run from 8:30am-9:30am at Scouter’s Hall.

On the day of the event, May 4th, 2013, refreshments, t-shirts, collection bags, and safety signs will be provided for use throughout the day. Volunteers will be able to select an area they would like to clean up or they may choose from a suggestion list provided at registration.

The town is continuing the decade-long tradition of this very successful community event. “Save the date and tell your friends and family. Get some teams together to compete for the most trash collected,” stated Hamilton. “We will need a huge community effort to beat the 2012 record of collecting 6.42 tons of trash!”

In addition to volunteers for the May 4th event, volunteers are needed for the Clean & Green Committee. Service hours will be available for students.

If town residents cannot make the event, Donna Kaehler, the North Smithfield Recycling Coordinator, has other opportunities for town clean up. The main goal of this event is to make North Smithfield the cleanest town in Rhode Island!
