With the holiday season just around the corner, the annual WOON Radio Milk Fund Auction Committee, headed by on-air personality Romeo Berthiaume, has been busy planning this year’s upcoming auctionThe Committee includes Darin Cooper, Michele Bocchini, State Representative Bob Phillips, his wife, Nancy, Allie Carcifero, and Milk Fund General Chair Lisa Carcifero.  The group has been actively soliciting donations for the auction since September. 

“This year, more than ever, the 92nd annual Milk Fund Appeal is important as more and more local families are in dire need of help due to the ongoing pandemic”, related Dave Richards, WOON station manager and long-time Board memberRichards serves as chief auctioneer during the radio auction which begins on Friday, November 24 and continues through Friday, December 22. The auction will run from 4-5 p.m.weekdays and from 6-9 a.m. on Saturdays during Berthiaume’s weekly “Saturday Show” program. The auction has become one of the major fundraisers for the Milk Fund over the past few years.  

In order to achieve success, the Committee depends largely upon the generosity of area businesses and private donorsItems such as gift cards and small appliances like coffee makers, toasters, can openers and electric mixers have proven to be most popular in the pastThe Auction Committee realize that this year’s inflationary situation (the price of milk has risen to $3.99 per gallon) has contributed to a dire need for assistance)Any donation, small or large, will be gratefully accepted. Berthiaume is appealing to potential donors to come forward with various auction items that will be of interest to the radio audienceHe is also asking that those wishing to make cash donations to the auction committee can send checks made out to “Milk Fund Inc.” to the radio station at 985 Park Ave., Woonsocket, RI 02895.  The cash will be used to purchase various gift cards which have proven to be the most popular items that are auctioned. The Milk Fund is a 501C (3) charity and all donations are tax deductible.   The Milk Fund is administered by the Community Care Alliance and provides free milk to low-income households in Greater Woonsocket throughout the entire year.   

America's roads, skies and rails will be busy this Thanksgiving. In fact, Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy said he expects the busiest Thanksgiving on record, with 73-million Americans on the road, 31-million in the skies, and one-point-two-million riding the rail. Duffy said the busiest times on the road will be in the afternoons on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Sunday.        A polar vortex is set to bring cooler temperatures to the Central and Northern U.S. for the Thanksgiving holiday. Smith says he wants to have a "profound" impact on who the next president is, while not ruling out that person being him. In an interview with The Hill, the ESPN and sports personality said that he isn't thinking about running right now, and that he loves what he does and isn't willing to "give up" his money. He added that he wants to make an impact, and that if you are an elected official, he wants to be a place you're going to have to come through if you're going to get to where you want to go."        Portland Trail Blazers head coach and Basketball Hall of Famer Chauncey Billups has pleaded not guilty in his federal case involving rigged poker games. He's accused of using his well known name to lure players into rigged poker game tables and then cheat those players by using x-ray machines and tampered shuffling machines. The games were allegedly paid for by the mafia.        Authorities investigating a Virginia high school football coach say he's gone missing. Virginia State Police issued a statewide alert for Travis Turner, who was last seen Thursday in Wise County, in the southwestern part of the state. The 46-year-old coaches the undefeated Union High School football team in Big Stone Gap.
