City Council Special Meeting - Nov 12 2024

The 2020 Georgia election interference case against President Trump is over. On Wednesday, a judge granted a motion by the new prosecutor to drop the case that accused Trump and others of attempting to overturn the election results. In a statement, Trump's legal team said the "political persecution of President Trump by disqualified" Fulton County DA Fani [[ faw-NEE ]] Willis is over.        America's roads, skies and rails are packed ahead of the Thanksgiving holiday. Wednesday is traditionally the busiest day on the road, and it could feel even busier this year. Triple-A expects a new record, with at least 73 million people traveling by car -- accounting for about 90-percent of all Thanksgiving travelers.        Authorities are searching for a Virginia high school football coach wanted on child pornography charges. Police said they've obtained warrants to charge Travis Turner with possession of child pornography and using a computer to solicit a minor. Turner was reported missing on Friday after authorities went to his home in Appalachia.        A Chilean national could face time behind bars for stealing Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem's purse in Washington, DC. Mario Bustamante-Leiva pleaded guilty Friday to theft and wire fraud charges tied to a series of purse thefts from downtown DC restaurants in April. However, the 49-year-old said he didn't know the Gucci bag containing a wallet and three-grand in cash he took belonged to Noem - and didn't know who she was.        At least 13 people are dead after a number of high-rise apartment buildings in Hong Kong became engulfed in flames. Video shows multiple budilings on fire, with flames coming out of windows and smoke rising from the buildings. Local authorities also say over a dozen people are injured as well.        The Olympic flame has been lit. The official lighting ceremony for the 2026 Milano Cortino Winter Games took place today in Olympia, Greece - the birthplace of the Games. IOC President Kirsty Coventry said today's event "reminds us what the Olympic Games stand for: bringing people together in peaceful competition, friendship and respect."
