The 13th Annual North Smithfield Great Pumpkin Festival will be held on Saturday, September 21st , from 11am to 5pm on the joint grounds of North Smithfield High School and Middle School.

 

The annual NS PumpkinFest will be held rain or shine.

 

As always, the event will host a retail area where local small business retail vendors and Non-

profit organizations will be featuring their products. Some will be presenting their best foods,

lots of games, inflatables, crafts and activities to raise money for their organizations. The little

ones can be entertained by BoBo the Clown (sponsored by nations lending and Keller Williams

Leading Edge), Holliston Sand’s Giant Sand Box, as well as Paws and Sox will be returning.

We will also have the Trebuchet and Smashing Pumpkins sponsored by Navigant and run by the

Camp Phoenix team. The PumpkinFest Committee will again sponsor many free games like

mini golf, bowling, giant Candy Land, quarterback toss, basketball shoot and many activities for

the toddlers in your group at the Children’s Pumpkin Patch. The NS Fire and Rescue

Department will again be manning the hoses at the “Fire Safety Smoke House.”

 

This year, PumpkinFest will feature a 2nd Annual Pumpkin Pie Bake Off.

 

Family friendly acts on the main stage include: "Charlie Marie", a Country solo artist; the local band Colt and the Coyotes and Jesse Liam Band. Also, look for our local children presenting their skills with Martial Arts and Dance. For the 2nd year, the festival will host the Southwick Zoo, the hands-on ZooMobile Program called EARTH from 11am – 3pm.

 

 Admission buttons can be purchased at the gate for $2.00.

[[ watch for updates ]]        The Republican congressional redistricting plan could soon be up for a vote in the Texas state House. State lawmakers reconvened today after protests from Democrats saw them leave the state to break quorum and delay the vote. The new map would create five more Republican-leaning districts. House Democrats were placed under around-the-clock supervision of the Department of Public Safety by the House speaker to ensure they would return to the state capital today.        North Carolina is under state of emergency as Hurricane Erin tracks nearly parallel with the U.S. East Coast. The outer bands of the Category 2 storm are expected to bring poor weather conditions to the North Carolina coast, where thousand of coastal residents have already evacuated. Erin is expected to get stronger today, and many beaches up and down the East Coast have banned swimming due to dangerous rip currents.        President Trump says he and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu are war heroes. During an interview, the president referred to the prime minister as "a good man" who is fighting for Israel. Trump said "he's a war hero, because we work together" and added "I guess I am too." He pointed to the U.S. strikes against three Iranian nuclear facilities in June as an example.        One person is hurt after a Washington, D.C. National Guard vehicle and a civilian car were involved in a crash. It happened this morning less than a mile from the U.S. Capitol. The driver of the civilian vehicle was taken to the hospital with minor injuries. It comes as Trump has ordered National Guard troops to patrol D.C. as he looks to crack down on crime.        The price of a PlayStation 5 is going up. Sony announced prices for each model of the popular video game console will go up by 50-dollars in the U.S. starting Thursday. In a statement, the company said, "Similar to many global businesses, we continue to navigate a challenging economic environment." The standard PS5 model will now cost 550-dollars while the digital edition will be priced at 500-bucks and the PS5 Pro will cost 750-dollars.        Scottie Scheffler is entering rarefied air with the shortest odds to win a PGA Tour event since Tiger Woods in 2009. According to DraftKings, Scheffler is listed at +150 [[ plus-150 ]] to win the Tour Championship this weekend. Tiger was even money to win the Tour Championship in 2009. Scheffler won last week's BMW Championship to win his fifth Tour event this season.
