Woonsocket Under Construction

Have you wondered what is going on next to the Senior Center on 84 Social Street? Aging Well Inc. launched a capital campaign to fund a new outdoor activity area designed to encourage movement, relaxation, and social connection. The space will feature a pickleball court, garden beds, game tables, seating, and an exercise area. The space will be perfect for group activities, exercise classes, or simply enjoying fresh air with friends. It’s all about creating opportunities for members to stay active, engaged, and connected in a welcoming outdoor setting.

Leaves are Falling & Curbside Pick Up is Here for You!

Weekly collection begins the week of Monday, September 29 and runs through the week of Monday, December 1 (ending Friday, December 5 for Friday route residents).

What you can use:

  • Paper yard waste bags or covered barrels clearly marked Yard Waste
  • Leaves, grass clippings, and small twigs
  • Small branches under 4 ft long and a few inches thick, as well as small bushes that are neatly bundled and tied with twine in manageable sizes

What’s not allowed:

  • Sand, dirt, rocks, or large amounts of mulch. These make bags too heavy, often tear them, and will not be collected
  • Plastic bags cannot be accepted

Helpful Tip: Keep barrels covered! Rainwater adds weight and may cause your yard waste to be rejected.

Meet Joseph Rollins!

Joseph Rollins, Zoning Official, holding the Certificate of Recognition from the RI State Planning Council. This is the first time in 15 years that the City of Woonsocket has a Comprehensive Plan!

Joseph Rollins has proudly called Rhode Island home for the past 13 years. Since 2023, he has been serving the City of Woonsocket as our Zoning and ADA Compliance Officer. With a law degree in Land Use and Zoning from Pace University and years of experience with the City of New York’s Department of General Services, Joseph brings both expertise and dedication to his work here at City Hall. When asked what he enjoys most about his role, Joseph didn’t hesitate: “My co-workers are the best part of my job, especially the Planning Department.” Most recently, Joseph represented Woonsocket at the Rhode Island State House where he received a certificate of recognition from the State Planning Council for the Comprehensive Plan. This important plan now guides our community’s growth and development through 2035. Outside of City Hall, Joseph stays true to his New York roots by cheering on his hometown teams: the Knicks, Jets, Mets, and both the Islanders and Rangers. He’s also an avid jazz fan and enjoys dining at one of his favorite local spots, River Falls!
