President Trump is touting his economic policies during a Cabinet meeting at the White House today. He recognized American workers when noting the upcoming Labor Day holiday. He said the average worker has gotten a 500-dollar wage increase since he took office. Trump also claimed grocery and gas prices are down while U.S. factories are "booming."        Political leaders in Illinois are telling President Trump to keep the National Guard out of Chicago. Democratic Governor JB Pritzker says there is no reason to send troops to the city to fight crime, calling the move unconstitutional and un-American. The governor also urged residents to protest peacefully if troops are deployed and said all legal options are being explored.        Consumer confidence slipped in August. The Conference Board's Consumer Confidence Index fell by more than a point from the July reading as consumers became less optimistic about the economy. The monthly survey noted rising concerns about tariffs and higher prices including food and groceries.        President Trump is calling for the death penalty for any murders in Washington, DC. While praising the National Guard intervention in DC, Trump said today if anybody murders someone in the Nation's Capital, they get "capital punishment." He then called it a very strong preventative measure.        Taylor Swift is letting fans know that she and Travis Kelce are engaged. The superstar singer-songwriter made the announcement in a post on Instagram. The caption reads, "Your English teacher and your gym teacher are getting married." The news comes as Swift is preparing to release her 12th studio album while Kelce is set to play his 12th season for the Kansas City Chiefs.        The schedule for the 2026 Major League Baseball season is out now. The season will get underway with the San Francisco Giants hosting the New York Yankees on March 25th in a standalone Opening Night matchup. Traditional Opening Day will see a 14-game slate on March 26th, the earliest in MLB history. The All Star Game will be played July 14th in Philadelphia. The season will end September 27th.
