A total communications failure occurred at Woonsocket City Hall Monday evening (11/07) just minutes after the regular meeting of the City Council began in Harris Hall. The failure took live pay-cable coverage and free over the air radio coverage on WOON 1240 off the air.
“It couldn’t have been worse timing”, said WOON manager Dave Richards, “I’m sure those whose names appear on tomorrow’s general election ballot were looking forward to the exposure, from sitting councilors running for re-election to challengers who routinely appear during the public Good and Welfare segment.”
“The complaints on the station’s Facebook social media page told a story of frustration as citizens wrote of their disappointment”, Richards added. “In some communities the audiences for regular council meetings may be small, but only in Woonsocket does the interest by the publicwarrant live coverage on pay-cable TV and a full-service commercial broadcast station as well”, said Richards.
City officials contacted by WOON explained that the city’s Internet and Telephone provider, Cox Communications, was alerted to the issue immediately but were unable to resolve the issues which caused the blackout at City Hall before the writing of this message, 9:15pm
