North Smithfield Emergency Management Agency announces
Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) 2013 WINTER CLASS Graduates
NORTH SMITHFIELD, RI – On February 5, 2013 fourteen area residents completed the eight week twenty hour Basic CERT Disaster Preparedness course sponsored by the North Smithfield Emergency Management Agency (NSEMA). The CERT class was offered free for residents to better prepare themselves and their families for emergency preparedness and response in times of disaster. The courses included the psychology of disaster trauma, light search and rescue, fire safety, basic first aid and triage, emergency preparedness, and operation and participation on a CERT team.
Paulette Hamilton, North Smithfield Town Administrator, presented each class member with a certificate for completing the basic course. “I thank the class members for their dedication, hard work, and commitment”, said Hamilton. I hope all of you to stay involved in serving the North Smithfield community”. Peter Branconnier, NSEMA Director, suggested to the class additional disaster training and educational courses available to further develop their skills in emergency preparedness.
Jay Levenson, NSEMA Deputy Director of Operations, and Leo Kennedy, Cranston Deputy Fire Chief and Director of Emergency Medical Services, were the CERT Class instructors. Congratulations are extended to following area residents for completing the course: Dan Costa, Lauren Champlin, Tracy Dorry, Monica Lennon, Brian LaFerriere, Willam Lincourt, Jeffrey Davis, Anthony Marchetti, Michael Monteiro, Nicholas Paul, Gary Peterson, Ken Thompson, Anne Wallibillich, and John Wojcik.
