All,

The Woonsocket Police Department is investigating a shooting that occurred early this morning just after midnight.  Officers were dispatched to the area outside of 156 Logee St for one report of gun shots.  Upon arrival and a canvass of the area, officers located a 33 year old male Woonsocket resident behind a nearby address.  The male was suffering from a gunshot wound.  Rescue was immediately dispatched and subsequently transported the man to Rhode Island Hospital.  The victim has undergone emergency surgery.  We believe his condition is critical.

No one else was injured.  No arrests have been made at this time.  Detectives are actively investigating this incident.  At this time, this is all of the information were able to release.  As information we’re able to release becomes available, we will do so.   Thank you.

Onward,

Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry says he'd welcome National Guardsmen on the streets of New Orleans as a way to crack down on crime. President Trump is open to the idea, telling reporters in the Oval Office on Wednesday it would take "two weeks" and would be "easier than DC." New Orleans City Council President JP Morrell called the idea "ridiculous," while the council's vice president said it was nothing more than "scare tactics."        A federal judge has ruled that the Trump administration acted illegally when it froze more than two-billion dollars in grant money to Harvard University. The judge sided with Harvard, which argued the move was retaliation after it refused demands to cut DEI programs, address antisemitism, and screen international students. The ruling voids the freeze and bars the administration from enforcing it.        The man accused of killing two Israeli embassy staffers in Washington, DC, is set to be arraigned today. Prosecutors say Elias Rodriguez of Chicago shot Yaron Lischinsky and Sarah Milgrim outside the Capital Jewish Museum in May, shouting "free Palestine" as he was arrested. He faces first-degree murder and federal hate crime charges.        President Trump will welcome more than 20 high-profile tech CEOs to the White House today. Meta founder Mark Zuckerberg, Apple CEO Tim Cook, Microsoft founder Bill Gates and OpenAI founder Sam Altman are all on the invite list.        ConocoPhillips says it will be cutting up to a quarter of its global workforce as part of a major restructuring. The Houston-based oil giant says 20 to 25 percent of its 13-thousand employees -- over three-thousand workers -- will lose their jobs, with most layoffs happening this year.        Singer Montell Jordan says his prostate cancer has returned, now upgraded to Stage Two after follow-up screenings. First diagnosed last year, he underwent surgery and initially recovered but will now begin proton radiation therapy and hormone treatments. Jordan says he remains optimistic thanks to early detection and treatment options.
