Commission studying CRMC reorganization to discuss findings tomorrow

 

STATE HOUSE – The special House commission to study the Coastal Resources Management Council (CRMC) will meet tomorrow for a discussion by its members on its findings.

The commission is scheduled to meet tomorrow, Tuesday, April 5 at 2:30 p.m. in Room 101 on the first floor of the State House. No public testimony will be taken at this meeting.

The meeting will be televised on Capitol Television, which can be seen on Cox Channels 15, and 61, in high definition on Cox Channel 1061, on Full Channel on Channel 15 and on Channel 34 by Verizon subscribers, and live streamed at http://rilegislature.gov/CapTV/Pages/default.aspx.

Led by Rep. Deborah Ruggiero (D-Dist. 74, Jamestown, Middletown), the 15-member special commission is to comprehensively study and provide recommendations for the reorganization of the CRMC.

 The special commission includes Chairwoman Ruggiero, Rep. Lauren H. Carson (D-Dist. 75, Newport), Rep. Arthur Handy (D-Dist. 18, Cranston), Rep. Michael W. Chippendale (R-Dist. 40, Foster, Glocester, Coventry), Save The Bay Director of Advocacy Topher Hamblett, Jamestown Town Administrator Jamie Hainsworth; Exeter Town Planner William DePasquale Jr.; Newport City Manager Joe Nicholson Jr., Rhode Island Builders Association CEO John Marcantonio, Rhode Island Saltwater Anglers Association President Richard Hittinger, Rhode Island Shellfisherman’s Association President Michael McGiveney, University of Rhode Island Graduate School of Oceanography Dean Paula Bontempi, Audubon Society of Rhode Island Executive Director Lawrence Taft, New Shoreham Town Councilor Sven Risom and Westerly Town Planner Nancy Letendre.

 

 

The State Department is backing President Trump's direction in the Iran-Israel ceasefire as things continue to hold. As he left the White House this morning, Trump used some salty language while saying he wasn't happy with either country continuing to trade fire. State Department spokesperson Tammy Bruce said the good thing about the President is, "You never have to guess what he's thinking."        Records could be shattered today, as extreme heat blankets much of the U.S. Over 228 million Americans along the east coast, south and midwest, will be feeling it today. It could feel close to 110 degrees in some places.        Treasury Department Secretary Scott Bessent says the Senate is on track to vote on the GOP megabill Friday. Bessent shared the information after meeting with GOP senators in the Capitol and added that the president would be fully involved in helping gather support for the bill in the final days. The treasure secretary predicted that Senate and House Republicans would reach a deal on raising the cap on state and local tax deductions in the next 24 to 48 hours.        The NTSB blames Boeing and the FAA for the mid-air blowout during an Alaska Airlines flight last year. No one was injured when a door plug panel blew out of the 737 Max shortly after takeoff. NTSB Chair Jennifer Homendy said Tuesday the January accident should never have happened.        Voters are headed to the polls in New York City for Primary Day. Nine Democrats are in the NYC mayoral race, but it appears to be a tight contest between former Governor Andrew Cuomo and Zohran Mamdani. A new poll from Emerson College projects Mamdani will beat Cuomo in the last round of rank choice voting.        The next generation of NBA stars take the first step in their career when the 2025 draft tips off from Brooklyn. The first round of the draft begins Wednesday night and the Dallas Mavericks are in possession of the top pick. The expectation is for the Mavs to select Duke freshman Cooper Flagg with the number one pick.
