Woonsocket Mayor Offering $500 Reward for

Information About Middle School Graffiti Vandalism

WOONSOCKET, R.I.: Mayor Lisa Baldelli-Hunt announced today that the City is offering a $500 reward for information leading to the identification, arrest and successful prosecution of the individual(s) who vandalized with graffiti the Villa Nova Middle School. Woonsocket Police believe that the vandalism occurred sometime during late Saturday night (April 23rd) through 1:00 a.m. on Sunday morning (April 24th). Graffiti property damage to areas of the Middle School that included the retaining wall and adjacent skate park, consisted of long stretches of red and black painted stick figures, the word "angel," and obscene gestures.

Any person with information regarding this act of vandalism should immediately contact the Woonsocket Police Department and communicate with either Detective Joseph Brazil at 401-597-5769 or Detective Michael Velino at 401-597-5804. Individuals providing such information to the City will remain anonymous.

The Mayor stated, "We are extremely disappointed to see this type of criminal vandalism happening at our Middle School and we are asking responsible citizens to give us information about who did this, so that we can arrest and prosecute them." The Mayor added, "We put considerable time and effort into keeping Woonsocket beautiful for our residents and having to scrub down, or paint over graffiti, is costly, time consuming and sometimes leads to building damage. Graffiti makes neighborhoods and public areas look run down and erodes our community spirit. We are not going to tolerate those who deface our public or private property with graffiti."

Police Captain Adam Remick stated, "It is unfortunate that this type of behavior occurred at our Middle School, a place where our children engage in education and recreation, and where they learn about respect for others. We would appreciate any information that leads to the arrest of whoever is responsible for this vandalism."

 

Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. is blasting the CDC and its former director. During a heated Senate hearing today, Kennedy was pressed on Susan Monarez's statement that she was fired as CDC director because she refused to go along with vaccine recommendations backed by Kennedy. Kennedy said Monarez lied, then went on to say others at the CDC are being fired because they allowed politics to enter into COVID vaccine policy.        President Trump wants the Supreme Court to step in and save his tariffs. A federal appeals court ruled last week Trump had exceeded his authority imposing steep levies on nearly every country. According to the new filings, Trump is asking the High Court to hear arguments on the case in early November. The lower court's ruling allowed the tariffs to remain in effect until at least October 14th.        The social media feud between President Trump and California Governor Gavin Newsom shows no signs of slowing. President Trump initiated the latest digital battle with a post targeting the governor, and Newsom quickly fired back with memes of his own. Their exchange comes as Newsom has embraced a strategy to mirror Trump in social media posts. Newsom has gone after Trump over immigration operations and redistricting efforts.        A Trump-appointed Supreme Court justice is defending her decision to overturn Roe V. Wade. In her new memoir, Justice Amy Coney Barrett writes the "complicated moral debate" about abortion sets it apart from other rights that have broad public support. Those "other rights" include the "right to marry, have sex, procreate, use contraception." In a recent interview, Barrett said the Supreme Court is "not just an opinion poll," rather justices are tasked with seeing what the American people have decided        Giorgio Armani is dead at the age of 91. The Armani Group announced the death of the influential Italian designer on Thursday. Armani is known for featuring an Italian aesthetic in his clothing, with a lot of his work featured on red carpets around the world, worn by the likes of Beyonce, Lady Gaga and Julia Roberts. He also designed costumes for over 100 movies including "The Dark Knight" and "Ocean's 13."        Football is back. Week One of the NFL regular season kicks off tonight as the defending Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles host the Dallas Cowboys on NBC and Peacock at 8:30 Eastern. The Eagles are celebrating their second Lombardi Trophy after throttling the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl 59. Dallas enters the season without their best player after trading edge rusher Micah Parsons to the Green Bay Packers.
