Blackstone Valley Tourism Council Invites Groups to Join Our Spectacular Event

 

Central Falls - Blackstone Valley Tourism Council is inviting local groups, organizations, and dragon boat teams of all levels to participate in our 2023 Annual Dragon Boat Races & Taiwan Day Festival on Saturday, September 2!

Last year’s event was a resounding success, thanks to the energy and enthusiasm of our teams. The memorable races, camaraderie and spirit of competition made it an unforgettable experience for all participants and spectators alike.

The races are great for experienced clubs or companies/organizations looking for a fun & unique way to team-build and get promotion to thousands of spectators!

Anti-ICE protests are still taking place across the country. In Las Vegas, police declared an unlawful assembly after protesters gathered near the Federal Tower that houses ICE. Seattle has also seen demonstrations and a curfew is in effect in Spokane [[ spo-can ]], Washington following confrontations with ICE officers Wednesday night. Texas Governor Greg Abbott pre-emptively deployed National Guard troops to San Antonio, but protests there have stayed largely peaceful.        Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass is criticizing Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem after U.S. Senator Alex Padilla was restrained during a press briefing. In a press conference Thursday, Bass questioned how authorities didn't recognize one of California's sitting senators when they wrestled him to the ground. She went on to criticize Noem, pushing back on her claims that Los Angeles is a "warzone." Bass said that protests are confined to a small area of LA and the city has the situation under control.        Three Democratic governors are facing questions on Capitol Hill over their "sanctuary state" policies. Minnesota's Tim Walz, Kathy Hochul of New York and JB Pritzker from Illinois were grilled by House Republicans who claim they have turned their states into magnets for illegal aliens. Walz's leadership was challenged by one Republican, who said he should step down as governor.        "No Kings Day" protests are expected nationwide on Saturday in opposition to President Trump's military parade. Trump's parade through Washington, DC is being held on Flag Day, which is also his 79th birthday. Protests against the parade are planned in over 18-hundred communities, and up to a million people are expected to show up.        President Trump says Israel may take military action against Iran in the coming days. At the White House,Trump said, "It looks like it could very well happen," adding, "There's a chance of a massive conflict in the Middle East." He added he needs to speak out about the possibility right now, so people in the region can prepare. It's unclear if the U.S. will play a role in any potential action.        The Stanley Cup Finals are back underway tonight. The Florida Panthers are leading the series 2-1 entering Game Four. Florida is coming off a dominant victory and is hoping to defend its home ice. The Edmonton Oilers are looking to bounce back after being crushed. Only one team in NHL history has recovered from being down 3-1 in the Stanley Cup Final.
