RIDOH Doing Community Outreach on WIC Site Closure to Ensure Continuity of Services

 

Tri-County Community Action Agency has informed the Rhode Island Department of Health (RIDOH) that WIC services will no longer be available at their Johnston site, located at 126 Hartford Avenue, as of May 31st.

 

WIC is a public health program through which families and children receive one-on-one nutrition counseling, referrals for specialized services, and food prescriptions. The food prescription component of the program allows participants to use EBT cards for specific types of food at grocery stores at no additional cost. Approximately 800 WIC participants participate in the program through the Johnston site.

 

Since being made aware of this closure, RIDOH has worked closely with Tri-County Community Action Agency as well as community partners to connect participants to alternative sites, ensure their coverage is extended, and ensure the seamless continuation of services. Outreach has included text messages to participants, email blasts to participants, social media messaging, a banner on the WIC Shopper App, signage at the site, and tailored messaging for healthcare professionals who may be referring patients to the WIC program.

 

Any appointments scheduled after May 31st at the Johnston site have been cancelled. The following transition options and telehealth services are available for participants:

 

Transition Options:

  • Service Transition: Participants currently receiving services at Tri-County in Johnston can transition to a nearby WIC location without needing to reapply, unless they are due for recertification.
  • Extended Recertification: For children due for recertification, benefits will be extended automatically for an additional month to assist families during this transition.
  • Finding New Locations: Visit health.ri.gov/wic or enter your ZIP code at signupwic.com to find a list of nearby WIC locations.

 

Telehealth Services:

  • To continue supporting our participants, telehealth appointments will be available to accommodate participants during this transition period.

House Democrats and Republicans have defeated an impeachment attempt against President Trump. Tuesday's vote was 344-79, with 128 Democrats voting with Republicans. The move to impeach was brought by Texas Congressman Al Green.        An early intelligence assessment of the U.S. strikes on Iran says the attack reportedly set it back only by months. Multiple outlets are reporting about the highly classified document produced by the Defense Intelligence Agency and U.S. Central Command.        Andrew Cuomo is conceding the Democratic primary for New York City mayor to his opponent Zohran Mamdani. The former governor confirmed his decision to the New York Times, but said he may decide to run in the general election as an independent. However, because no candidate received an outright majority, the ranked-choice totals must be counted and New Yorkers will have to wait at least a week for an official primary winner.        A man accused of working with the man who bombed a fertility clinic in Palm Springs has died in jail. Daniel Park was found unresponsive at the Metropolitan Detention Center in downtown LA and later died at a hospital. He had been in federal custody on suspicion of being an accomplice to Guy Bartkus who died in the blast last month.        The NTSB says Boeing and the FAA are to blame for the mid-air blowout during an Alaska Airlines flight last year. No one was injured when a door plug panel blew out of the 737 Max shortly after takeoff in January 2024. The NTSB says multiple systemic failures led to the accident, but investigators still don't know who forgot to replace four bolts back in the door plug.        Comedian Shane Gillis has been picked to host the ESPYS next month in Los Angeles. That's according to Gillis himself, who said it should be a good time.
