40th Autumnfest Parade Line-Up Nears Completion

 

 

The 40th Autumnfest Parade will take place on Monday, October 8, 2018, Columbus Day, in Woonsocket, Rhode Island.  The parade route is 2.5 miles departing Diamond Hill Plaza on Diamond Hill Road, Woonsocket at 9:30 AM and ending on Worrall Street, near the Woonsocket Post Officet.  Providing tremendous exposure for the participants, the entire 10 division parade is filmed and later broadcast on the public access channels via Cox Communication, which highlights information and accomplishments of the participants.  The live parade audience exceeds 40,000.

 “Final plans for the 40th Autumnfest Parade is being formulated as all submitted entry forms are being inserted in the parade’s 10 division line-up,” Richard Savaria, Autumnfest General Chairman said.  “The big question is, ‘Are we still accepting entry forms for bands, floats and special entries?’ Yes, there is still a significant need for bands, floats, and special entries.  The absolute deadline for all forms is September 16, 2018.  The deadline has been extended, so as to provide a more accurate parade line-up to the media.”

The parade will again feature “The All-American Veteran’s Division”. This division will host various military bands, marchers, military vehicles and most important, this nations honored veterans. According to Savaria, this year’s float theme will be centered on the “40 years of Autumnfest Memories”.  Float Judges will be awarding five trophies in the following categories:  “Most Beautiful”, “Maple Leaf Award”, “Best in Parade”, “Most Creative” and the “Judges Award”. In the past years, large numbers of floats registered and competed for these prestigious awards. With a 25 float limit, it would be wise to register early. Entry forms are accessible on the web site. As the community celebrates and enjoys the amenities of the 40th Autumnfest Celebration it also honors and acknowledges an individual whom unselfishly gives of himself to better the community, its people and somehow Autumnfest without compensation. This year’s title of Autumnfest Grand Marshal is Paul Bourget.  Paul and his wife Denise will be riding down the parade route in a mode yet to be announced. The Grand Marshal’s Celebration will be held on Saturday, September 29, 2018 at Savini’s Pomodoro Restaurant, Rathbun Street, Woonsocket from 6-10 PM. Tickets can be purchased on the Autumnfest website (www.autumnfest.org) under Grand Marshal.

 Invitation letters to area bands, fire & police departments, public service clubs, state and local officials and all towns officials of the Blackstone Valley have been forwarded as the Steering Committee is seeking their participation in this year’s parade.  If you have an entry that would make the 40th Autumnfest Parade interesting, we would like to hear from you.

We are still looking for DJ’s or other mounted music providers to be in our parade. A completed Special Entry form is required. As for all other parade entries, last year’s participants should have received an invitation and this year’s entry forms. An NBA gambling indictment suggests that leaked injury information about LeBron James was given to bettors. Earlier today, FBI Director Kash Patel announced charges involving an illegal gambling and sports betting scheme linked to current and former NBA players, coaches, and others. Miami Heat player Terry Rozier and former coach and player Damon Jones are accused of using inside information to make wagers on games.        At least half of U.S. states plan to cut off food assistance benefits November 1st due to the ongoing government shutdown. The loss of assistance would affect millions of low-income citizens. Some 25 states are sending out notices to people on the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, or SNAP, that the checks won't be coming next month.        The deployment of federal agents to San Francisco is being called off. In a post on Truth Social, Trump said his administration was getting ready to "surge" San Francisco with agents to crackdown on crime and immigration, but friends in the area asked him to not move forward with it. They told him that Mayor Daniel Lurie is making progress in the city and Trump added he spoke to the Mayor last night, who asked him to give him a chance to "turn it around."        The man accused of starting the deadly Palisades Fire is set to be arraigned in downtown Los Angeles soon. Twenty-nine-year-old Jonathan Rinderknecht [[ RIN-der-neckt ]] was due in court this afternoon. Rinderknecht was arrested in Florida on October 7th and has since been extradited back to Los Angeles, where he remains behind bars.        President Trump says his administration is working to remove international drug cartels. During a roundtable event on crime at the White House, Trump said he was happy to sign executive orders targeting cartels and noted the recent destruction of narco-terrorist boats in the eastern Pacific.        Week eight of the NFL season kicks off later with Thursday Night Football. The Los Angeles Chargers will host the Minnesota Vikings at SoFi Stadium. The Chargers are four-and-three on the season, while the Vikings are three-and-three.
