RI Legislative Black and Latino Caucus congratulates new State Police Colonel Darnell S. Weaver

STATE HOUSE – The Rhode Island Legislative Black and Latino Caucus, chaired by Rep. Karen Alzate, is congratulating newly sworn-in Rhode Island State Police Colonel Darnell S. Weaver.

“The Rhode Island Black and Latino Caucus is proud that the first African-American head of the State Police, Colonel Darnell Weaver, was just sworn into service by the governor.  Today is truly a special day for both current and past members of the caucus due to the fact that the Black and Latino Caucus has advocated for more diversity within the State Police, particularly within the higher ranks, for many years.  We congratulate Colonel Weaver for this tremendous and well-deserved appointment and we look forward to working with him to ensure that all of Rhode Island’s residents remain protected and safe while also being treated with respect and dignity,” said Representative Alzate (D-Dist. 60, Pawtucket).

The Rhode Island Legislative Black and Latino Caucus represents and advocates for the interests of disadvantaged people throughout the State of Rhode Island. It seeks to increase a diverse participation and representation in all levels of government. The goal is to close, and ultimately to eliminate, disparities that still exist between white and non-white Americans in every aspect of life.
