Positive & Significant Changes to the Spring Curbside Yard Waste Pick Up Schedule

Woonsocket, R.I.: As Spring nears the City has announced a NEW pick up schedule for residents in 1–3-unit properties for their curbside yard waste needs. Annual concerns that there hadn’t been services through the summer were carefully considered and this new schedule should help resolve much of this issue. Residents are reminded, as in previous years, the pickup is done on your regular trash day. Place yard waste in either paper leaf bags only or in covered barrels, clearly marked "yard waste". Yard Waste should be curbside by 6am on your normal trash collection day. (Plastic ‘leaf bags’ are not acceptable)

The NEW Schedule is as follows:

Spring and Summer Collections Begin on Monday, May 6th Every OTHER Week until Friday, September 13th.

Fall Collections will Begin Monday, September 23rd and run consecutively every week for 10 weeks, ending on Friday, November 30th.

A printable calendar is available on the City’s website under the Solid Waste Department:https://www.woonsocketri.org/sites/g/files/vyhlif5231/f/uploads/recycling_calendar_2024_-_full_year_0.pdf AND are available for pick up at City Hall in the Public Works Department.

"While this every other week schedule may not solve all problems, it should alleviate a great deal of them. This schedule allows us to stay within certain parameters, financially and contractually, while offering the "through the summer service" to those who need it most," noted Liz Kerrigan, Solid Waste Coordinator.

The drop-off site in Blackstone, MA, off Canal Street (North Smithfield) will be OPEN Wednesdays and Saturdays 8am to 2:30pm, starting April 20th for those residents having the appropriate yard waste sticker; ALL residential properties in the City of Woonsocket are eligible for the yard waste drop-off program. Stickers (Bright Blue for 2024) can be obtained at City Hall in the Department of Public Works, Monday through Friday 8:30am – 4pm at a cost of $25.00, beginning April 1st. Proper identification and vehicle registration are required to obtain the sticker.

All yard waste stickers issued prior to January 2024 have expired.

Commercial vehicle registrations are excluded from this program.

This program is for yard waste only; it is illegal to combine yard waste and household waste.
